Introduction
As part of our subject field project, we had the opportunity to visit the Blind’s Welfare Association in Ulhasnagar, Maharashtra. This NGO has been working tirelessly for over 48 years to empower visually impaired individuals by providing them with education, vocational training, and employment opportunities. However, many of their processes are still manual and paper-based, leading to inefficiencies and limitations in reaching a larger audience.
To modernize their operations, we propose a comprehensive digital platform designed to enhance their education, volunteer management, donation tracking, and communication systems.
Understanding the NGO’s Mission and Impact
The Blind Welfare Association focuses on several key areas:
1. Educational Support
Provides free computer training tailored for visually impaired individuals.
Offers academic support to students pursuing higher education.
Conducts specialized courses to enhance employability skills.
2. Vocational Skill Development
Organizes handicraft training workshops for self-sustainability.
Runs music programs to help individuals develop artistic careers.
Facilitates job placement opportunities in collaboration with organizations.
3. Community and Parental Assistance
Offers food distribution and financial aid to underprivileged individuals.
Helps parents enroll their visually impaired children and track their progress.
Provides counseling services for families.
4. Fundraising and Donation Management
Accepts financial donations and sponsorships.
Manages crowdfunding campaigns for medical support and education.
Recognizes donors through transparent tracking and reports.
Challenges Faced by the NGO
Despite its impactful work, the Blind Welfare Association faces several challenges:
Manual Record-Keeping: Student data, donations, and volunteer logs are maintained on paper.
Limited Outreach: Awareness programs rely heavily on word-of-mouth.
Inefficient Volunteer Management: Difficulty in scheduling and tracking volunteer participation.
Lack of Digital Fundraising: Donations are collected manually, limiting potential contributions.
To address these, we propose a comprehensive digital solution.
Stakeholders for Our Project
Stakeholders play a crucial role in shaping our project and ensuring its success. The key stakeholders involved are:
NGO Staff & Administrators – They are the primary users of the platform, responsible for managing records, overseeing activities, and ensuring smooth operations. Their feedback is vital for system improvements.
Beneficiaries (Children, Elderly, or Underprivileged Groups) – The end-users who will benefit from improved services, streamlined processes, and better communication channels.
Donors & Sponsors – Individuals or organizations that support the NGO financially or through resources. A well-structured platform enhances transparency and encourages more contributions.
Volunteers & Social Workers – Those who contribute time and effort to NGO activities. The platform will help them track schedules, tasks, and communication efficiently.
Jobs and Livelihood for the Visually Impaired
"We had a great conversation, getting to know their experiences and daily challenges. It was insightful to hear how the NGO has helped them over the years."
After talking to the members of the Blind Welfare Association, we came to know that many visually impaired individuals not only receive training here but also work in various jobs. Some are employed in government offices, while others work in private companies, leveraging the skills they acquired through the NGO’s training programs. After talking to the members of the Blind Welfare Association, we came to know that many visually impaired individuals not only receive training here but also work in various jobs. The skills they gain from the NGO play a crucial role in helping them achieve financial independence.
